Driving history
Ask whether your driving record qualifies for a discount. Provide accurate driver and insurance history so the quote reflects your circumstances.
Students and training
Grades, school arrangements or an approved driving course may matter. Use the guides above for details, or prepare with our teen and new driver checklist.
Vehicle equipment
Review the vehicle’s installed safety equipment and ask about eligible features. If you insure more than one car, ask about multi-vehicle eligibility.
Other policies
Discuss a potential multi-policy discount when reviewing home or renters coverage. Our bundling guide explains the questions to ask. Policies can involve different insurers.
Military and affiliations
Ask about eligible military, employment or membership affiliations and required proof. Our military insurance page helps you start that conversation.
Billing and timing
Ask whether paperless billing, paying in full, Auto Pay or shopping before renewal qualifies in your state. Compare the total premium and applicable fees.
How to compare the final price
- Keep coverage consistent. Compare equivalent limits, deductibles, optional coverages and policy periods.
- Ask what was applied. Request a review of the discounts included and any documentation still needed.
- Understand the payment choice. Review the total premium, payment schedule and any applicable fees, not only the first payment.
- Check a deductible change. A higher deductible can mean more out-of-pocket cost after a covered loss. That coverage decision is different from qualifying for a discount.
- Update changed information. Tell your insurer when drivers, vehicles, school arrangements, residence or vehicle use change.
A discount is not a guaranteed savings amount
A percentage may apply only to certain coverages, and multiple discounts are not necessarily added together. Eligibility and amounts can differ among Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma and between GEICO companies. The quote and policy documents explain the terms that apply to you.
For an existing policy, our team can help you request a review. For a new policy, start a quote and provide complete information through the appropriate application process. We cannot promise a particular reduction, the lowest rate or that every listed opportunity will be available.
Common questions
Will every discount apply in my state?
No. Discounts, premium reductions, coverage options and payment features can vary by state, company and individual circumstances. Ask the agency to review the options for the policy you are considering.
Do I need to buy another policy to get a quote?
No. You can request an auto quote on its own. If you also want homeowners, renters or other coverage, we can discuss those needs and any eligible multi-policy opportunity.
Does a discount guarantee a lower renewal premium?
No. The overall premium reflects multiple factors. A discount may still apply even when the total price changes. Review the renewal, any coverage changes and the discounts shown with your insurer.
