START WITH THE BASICS
What does 25 / 50 / 10 mean?
New Mexico’s minimum auto liability insurance limits are 25/50/10. The property-damage limit is separate from the injury limits.
The $10,000 property-damage minimum is a limit on damage to other people’s property, not coverage for your car. Compare the cost of higher limits rather than assuming the minimum is enough for your needs.

BEFORE YOU CHOOSE
Moving states? Check these details.
Use your real vehicle location
Have the address where your vehicle is normally kept ready when you quote. If you split time between states, explain your situation to the agency instead of choosing an address just for a price.
Match the vehicle records
Check the VIN on the policy against the vehicle and registration. New Mexico verifies insurance electronically; mismatched information can create a problem even when you bought coverage.
Review UM/UIM for each vehicle
New Mexico requires insurers to offer uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage with per-vehicle cost disclosures. Review the offer and ask how the coverage applies before accepting or rejecting it.

GET READY TO QUOTE
Make the state change
part of the quote.
Whether you are moving or comparing your renewal, prepare the details for the vehicle’s actual New Mexico location. A quote for a different address or coverage selection is not a like-for-like comparison.
Quote preparation and comparison: GEICO’s guide to comparing auto insurance.
Start with your ZIP code- 01New address and vehicles
Have your actual New Mexico address, vehicle details and VINs ready. Use your own ZIP code to start; our office’s Texas ZIP is not your garaging address.
- 02Drivers and timing
Have driver’s license numbers and driving history ready for GEICO’s secure quote flow. Choose your requested start date, then confirm the new policy is in force before canceling existing coverage.
- 03Compare equivalent coverage
Match the policy length, liability limits, deductibles and UM/UIM selections for each vehicle. Compare total premium and payment schedules, not only the first payment.

QUESTIONS FROM SHOPPERS
A little clarity
for New Mexico drivers.
Do you have a New Mexico office?
Our physical office is in Lubbock, Texas. Keith is licensed in New Mexico and our team can help you by phone or email. The quote button lets you start online.
Which ZIP code should I enter?
Use the ZIP code for your own address where the vehicle is kept, then provide accurate garaging and driver information in GEICO’s quote flow. If your situation involves multiple states, call the team for help.
Does buying insurance automatically resolve an MVD notice?
Do not assume so. New Mexico’s MVD explains that insurers report coverage electronically and that information mismatches can require attention. Follow the instructions on your notice and confirm the status with the insurer or MVD. See MVD guidance.
