Home / Auto + home bundling

COMPARE THE WHOLE PICTURE

Auto + home insurance.
A closer look at bundling.

A multi-policy discount may help with the price. Your decision also depends on coverage, deductibles and the combined cost. Here is what to compare before you choose.

Independently owned and operated by Roberts Insurance Professionals, INC

START WITH THE POLICIES YOU NEED

A bundle can include home or renters insurance.

An eligible property policy obtained through GEICO Insurance Agency may qualify you for a multi-policy discount on your GEICO auto policy. Ask which policies qualify and where any discount appears.

Auto + homeowners

Shopping for a house or reviewing a renewal? Compare the home’s coverage needs alongside your auto policy. Keep the coverage limits and deductibles visible for both.

Auto + renters

You do not have to own a home to ask about bundling. Eligible renters coverage can also qualify for a multi-policy discount on auto insurance.

Explore renters insurance

Homeowners and renters policies are written by non-affiliated insurers and secured through GEICO Insurance Agency, LLC. The policies retain their own terms. See GEICO’s bundling information and renters + auto guidance.

BEYOND THE DISCOUNT

Compare protection and total cost.

Use your current declarations pages as a baseline. A lower combined price is more useful when you understand what changed to produce it.

The auto policy

Match liability limits, collision and comprehensive deductibles, drivers and vehicle use. Check optional coverages separately, including rental reimbursement.

The property policy

Review coverage limits, deductibles and how losses are settled. Ask about replacement cost versus actual cash value, and whether wind or hail has a separate deductible.

The combined cost

Request the total premium for each policy, including the proposed discount and any payment fees. Make the policy periods comparable before adding the prices together.

A simple way to compare time periods

If one quote gives six months of auto coverage and a year of home coverage, this calculation puts the quoted prices on an annual basis:

2 × six-month auto premiumannual home premium

This is a comparison estimate, not a promise of next term’s auto price. Include applicable fees and check both renewal dates.

MAKE THE CONVERSATION USEFUL

Bring the details. Ask these questions.

Have current declarations pages, premiums and renewal dates available. Be ready to confirm your vehicle use and basic property details through the quote process.

Changing companies?

Confirm each replacement policy’s effective date before canceling the existing coverage. If your mortgage uses escrow, ask your lender how to handle the change.

Read the auto switching checklist
  • Which policy gets the discount, and is it already included in these prices?
  • What changes if one policy renews later or is canceled?
  • Which insurer issues each policy, and who handles its claims?
  • Will I have separate bills, accounts or renewal dates?
  • Which coverage limits, exclusions or deductibles differ from my current policies?
  • What does my lender need before a home insurance change?

COMMON QUESTIONS

Understand the bundle before you buy.

Our local office can help you get started. Call (806) 705-6810 or visit 6010 82nd St., Suite 100 in Lubbock.

Is bundling always cheaper?

No. Compare the final combined premium with your alternatives, using comparable coverage. Discount eligibility and amounts vary; a bundle may or may not provide the lowest total price. GEICO’s eligibility information notes that the discount is not available in every state or situation.

I already have GEICO auto insurance. Can I ask about adding renters coverage?

Yes. Ask about renters coverage through GEICO Insurance Agency and whether it qualifies your auto policy for a multi-policy discount. GEICO’s renters + auto guide explains the option.

Will everything be one policy with one bill?

Do not assume that. Auto and property coverages have separate policy terms, and property coverage may be issued by another insurer. Confirm the company, billing process and claims contact for each policy before buying.

Does bundling add flood coverage to a home policy?

No. A multi-policy discount does not change the covered causes of loss. Standard homeowners policies generally exclude flood damage; ask about separate flood coverage if you need it. NAIC explains common homeowners exclusions.
